Mystery Marathon (Scavenger Hunt) New Orleans, LA 08/28/10

BITS Mystery Marathon – Saturday, August 28, 2010 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM

 WHERE: Café Du Monde, 800 Decatur Street, New Orleans, LA 70116

 WHY: To raise awareness on the hunger crisis, while supporting BITS Strike Hunger program and other important organizations in our community.

 HOW: Teams in groups of 2 – 4 will join together to search for a variety of clues and tasks throughout as part of the Mystery Marathon (scavenger hunt).

HUNT DETAILS

Registration starts at 12:00pm. The marathon is open to Adults & Children ages 10 and older (children must register/partner with a registered adult)

The marathon will run from 12:30pm – 4:00pm – Late entries will not be considered.

Contestants may run, walk, jog or hop but must be willing to HAVE FUN while earning as many points as possible by completing a variety of different tasks throughout the area to earn prizes. **Digital Camera/Cell Phone with Camera is needed during hunt..

How Do Teams Earn Points?

Teams earn points by returning to the finish line by 4:00pm and completing the check-in process with a staff member. Points are earned for:

• Completing tasks correctly during the event (associated point value for that task awarded)
• Turning in “Sneak Peek” completion cards during check-in.
• Checking in early (2:00pm) – the earlier you check in, the more bonus points you earn (but the less time you have to complete tasks on the course)
• Cross the finish line by 2:00pm to earn an additional 30 points, 2:30pm for 20 points, 3:00pm for 10 points.

EARN EXTRA POINTS WHILE SUPPORTING OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.

Teams can earn extra points by bringing one or all of the items listed below to support neighboring organizations.

LOUISIANA SPCA- www.laspca.org – Bring in towels, pet toys or snacks for an additional 25 points to benefit LASPCA.

 Green Light New Orleans – www.greenlightneworleans.org – Bring in energy efficient CFU light bulbs for an additional 10 points to benefit Green Light New Orleans. 10 points per bulb.

Children’s Hospital – www.chnola.org – Bring in gift card from a Toy’s R US, Babies R US, Best Buy or Micheals Craft Store for additional points to benefit Children’s Hospital. 30 points for $5 gift cards, 60 points for $10 gift cards.

Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans – www.no-hunger.org – Bring in non-perishable food items for an additional 5 points for every non-perishable item to benefit Children’s Hospital. (5 can good = 25 points, 2 bags of rice = 10 points.

Odyssey House – www.ohlinc.org – Bring in a minimum of 3 personal hygiene items for an additional 25 points to benefit Odyssey House.

NO/Aids Task Force – www.noaidstaskforce.org – Bring in a minimum of 3 household cleaning products for an additional 25 points to benefit NO/Aids Task Force.

Soldiers Angels- www.soldiersangels.org – Participants have to find the Soldiers Care Station during the Mystery Marathon and complete the task for an additional 40 points to benefit Soldiers Angels.

Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation - www.louisianahelp.org – Participants will receive the clue to this task during the Mystery Marathon for a chance at 30 additional points to benefit Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation.
