Expedition Give

2009 October 27

Saturday, October 24, my dear friend Tinisha and I had the opportunity to participate in Expedition Give 5 hour Charity Scavenger Hunt. We were team “Pinky Divva’s” in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness! The hunt was SO AMAZINGLY awesome!! The hunt started at ended at the DIVVAlicious & Tasty ”Front Page News”.  We had the opportunity to meet a lot of cool people, while having a ball doing something good and positive at the same time. I never imagined myself hiking the city of Atlanta like I did on Saturday! We walked; we hopped on the Marta train, walked, and ran like our lives were on the line. Thank God for Tinisha’s competitive side and gps application! If it had not been for those two, we would have made it back at 7 or 8 pm, lol. During the event we partnered with another team, all in love, at this point we forgot about it being a competition, we just wanted to have a good time and share a few laughs with others. I was excited because one of the ladies was from New Orleans, so we had a lot to talk about! Tinisha was in awe, because the other lady wants to go sky diving but wanted a partner, well… Skydiving is on Tinisha’s to do list.

At the beginning of the hunt they gave us a list of commands that needed to be completed, such as writing cards to soldiers, preparing sandwiches for the local soup kitchen, convincing a stranger to donate $5 (we were good at that, we collected $15, $10 bucks over), donating  ten can goods,  going to the King Center and taking a picture in front of Dr. Kings tomb, collecting various pictures in front of different locations and monuments, such as the Boys & Girls Club, Coca Cola, Etc. It was funny, because there was this elder man and young child we stopped to that a picture of us with the people who gave us $5.00, after the guy took the picture he asked if we had some food. Well being the mom that I am, I had all kinds of goodies in my backpack, so we gave them food and $5.00 and thanked them for taking our picture! After they walked off, we proceeded to read the rest of the clues and the next one stated we had to do an act of kindness to a stranger and take a picture with that person as well as writing the story. Well… you know we started running!!! The man was looking at us like we were crazy running behind them. We explained what our task was and made the picture work!! God is good!!!

Besides the fun, excitement and unity between Tinisha and me, the event was a HUGE success!! Participants collected over 500 pounds of food for the Atlanta Community Bank, made nearly 100 sandwiches for the Trinity Soup Kitchen (some teams didn’t make it to the sandwich station in time, it was hilarious one team went to the actual soup kitchen thinking it was there), teams wrote more than 200 cards for Georgia soldiers serving overseas, as well as handwritten “Get Well” cards for sick children in Atlanta hospitals, spread 40 wheelbarrow loads of mulch in Ansley Park, learned about and supported over 100 different charities and causes, and much more..

We had a ball and we will be participating in the next year’s hunt, they were talks about Expedition Give’s Scavenger Hunt going to New Orleans, if so I will be there with bells on! I was so overwhelmed with happiness and joy during the hunt that I decided to create my very own Charity Scavenger Hunt on a smaller scale. Details coming soon.. GET READY GUYS!!

CONGRATS TO THE WINNERS “LIKE FATHER LIKE SON”! They won a round trip to ANYWHERE courtest of AirTran.. Gotta love it!!

We came in 33rd place, which both tears of joy to my eyes, everyone who knows me know how I feel about the #3. I screamed like it was 1st place!
